Nicolas is a researcher in the Semiconductor Optoelectronic devices team led by Prof Martin Dawson. His research interests focus on novel types of microcavity lasers and amplifiers for applications in metrology, spectroscopy and telecoms.

He joined the Institute in October 2003 as a post-graduate student and obtained his PhD of the University of Strathclyde in November 2006 for his work on long-wavelength dilute-nitride vertical-cavity semiconductor optical amplifiers. A PDF version of the thesis can be downloaded here.

Nicolas received an engineering degree in Optics and Optoelectronics from the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Sciences et de Technologies (ENSSAT), Lannion (Brittany, France) in September 2000. He then was an Optical Engineer at DiCon Fiberoptics, in the Bay area, California before joining the Institute. One of his main tasks there was the study of the behavior and characteristics of optical passive components submitted to high-power light.
