Simon is responsible for identifying and implementing strategies to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Industry. He also manages the business-led commercialisation of Institute generated Intellectual Property.
Since graduating from the University of Strathclyde in 1992 (BSc Hons Laser Physics and Optoelectronics), he has enjoyed a variety of roles from design, development and production engineering through to operations and engineering management.
He has managed the development of products from concept to market, with a variety of start-up, spin-out and established companies.
Working primarily in the medical device industry, from heart valves to medical lasers, he also has experience of developing products for telecommunications and defence industry customers.
Having often worked closely with universities whilst he was in industry, Simon is well placed to understand the needs of all parties and to ensure that productive outcomes are achieved.
He holds three patents and is a Chartered Physicist and a Chartered Engineer.
