We were delighted to welcome over 70 visitors to our first Open Day, held on 23 September. Attendees included representatives from industry, government and academia, some of whom had travelled significant distances to attend, as well as more local colleagues. |
Dr Karen Ness - Former Chief Executive, IOP |
| The morning started with a keynote address by David Lockwood, Chief Executive of Intense, who gave an interesting and thought-provoking analysis of the photonics industry in Scotland in his address "Whither the cluster - life after the boom". The remainder of the morning was given over to a series of presentations about the Institute's activities. Over lunch, Institute staff and students were on hand to discuss their work in more detail, alongside a series of poster presentations. In the afternoon there were guided tours of the Institute's labs as well as the Centre for Biophotonics and the TOPS (terahertz to optical pulse system) facility in the Physics Department, rounded off with tea, posters and lots of discussion, not only between Institute personnel and attendees, but amongst attendees as well. |
